About Us
- The Historic Monument Merchants Association (HMMA) promotes historic downtown Monument as a regional destination of small-town values, friendliness, helpfulness, and community building.
- HMMA encourages residents and visitors to experience shopping, dining, and personal services.
- HMMA strives to promote responsible development, preserve and enhance historic character, encourage an active lifestyle, create partnerships, and support the arts.
The charming downtown is filled with unique and locally owned boutiques, restaurants, galleries, and spas. Visitors feel welcomed by the merchants’ small-town values of friendly and personal service. We also host seasonal events celebrating the arts.
With its excellent location, fabulous mountain views, recreational opportunities, and a historic district where you’ll find locally-owned restaurants, galleries, spas, and boutiques, Monument is the type of small-town you just don’t find anymore.
Nestled high on the Palmer Divide lies the quaint downtown district of historic Monument. Midway between downtown Colorado Springs and the South Denver Metro area, Monument was incorporated June 2, 1879, after many years of settlement by farming pioneers, mostly from Iowa.
Monument has that ideal Colorado setting sought by so many with Pikes Peak and the Rocky Mountains to the west and the heavily-treed Black Forest to the north and east. Summertime is packed full of local-flavor events including Concerts in the Park on Wednesdays and Art Hop on the third Thursday of the month.
With Pike National Forest located to the west, two regional parks within seven miles, five Colorado State Parks and dozens of top-notch golf courses within thirty miles, it becomes a challenge for outdoor enthusiasts to decide what to do with their leisure time—whether it’s mountain biking, hiking, eighteen holes at the Woodmoor Country Club or hitting the Santa Fe Trail where it's possible to bike all the way through Colorado Springs without ever leaving the trail.
Come to Monument and discover the charm of historic downtown!
