"STARS OF TOMORROW" TALENT SHOW COMING
The “Stars of Tomorrow” talent show is a joint effort of Monument Hill Kiwanis Club and School District 38. It will provide a showcase for students from any of the schools in the district to have their performing arts talents reviewed by professional judges. Contestants will gain practical experience, receive valuable feedback on individual performance and compete for cash prizes.
This year 53 Individuals and groups chose to audition in Song & Dance, Drama, Vocal, Instrumental, A Cappella, Musical Theater, Jazz and both Classical and Modern music disciplines. The intent was to cast a “wide net” for a variety of participants, however actual performance is required (for example, no air guitars or lip syncing).
Competition groups will be elementary (grades 1-5) with a $500 prize, middle school (6-8) with $750 prize for first and $500 for second and high school (9-12) with prizes $2,000 for first, $1,000 for second, and $500 for third. While the middle school category does not mirror District 38’s classifications, adding a year’s class to the group is an attempt to even out the number of contestants in each group. The older performers are expected to be more accomplished, have been working to improve their skills for longer, have spent more money on instruments and instructions and are possibly committed to pursuing a performing arts career.
Participants must attend school in, or live within, Lewis-Palmer School District 38 borders. This year’s competition attracted a record number of performers to audition and those chosen to perform in the show are: ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DIVISION; Esther Hunt, Collins Carpenter, Emmalyse Schaffer and Anna Bearden MIDDLE SCHOOL DIVISION; Alyson Horne, Kaiya Powell, Jack Wittenborn, Katherine Rose Johnson HIGH SCHOOL DIVISION; Benton Miles; Hadley Miles, Ryleigh McFarland; Chloe Jarrell; Jonathan Lilley; Mia Claypool; Elle Gustin, Xavier Gonzales, Bonneyclaire Patterson, Evan Marsh, Austin Johnson, Lana Elliott Field, Madelyn LaPaorte. Rehearsal will be March 14 and the Performance will be March 15 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Palmer Ridge High school.
