Join Susan A. Judy for her exhibit opening and artist talk on becoming a stone mosaicist: From Exploring the Earth to Exploring the Mind. The lecture is part of the Western Museum of Mining and Industry’s monthly lecture series.
The Western Museum of Mining and Industry will open its newest changing exhibit Unearthed: Art from the Earth with Susan a Judy on Tuesday, September 10 with a lecture from the artist at 4pm. The exhibition will run from September 10 – December 14 and will include over two dozen works of abstract and geologic stone art designed to fit the space. A description will be included with each work along with a small map showing where the materials were unearthed. Judy is a stone relief sculptor with a background in exploration geology. As both an artist and scientist, Susan creates work on two levels: each composition is created with an eye to color, contrast, and texture, but the geologist on her shoulder looks deeper into the stories the materials tell. She has worked in stone since 1998 inlaying rare stone slabs with fossil and crystal specimens to create geologic and abstract art.
Reservations are required for the lecture. Museum members are free; nonmembers are $5.  To view the exhibit during museum hours, 9am to 4pm, regular museum admission rates will apply.
